Saint Martin´s Procession in Ramstein
November 12 @ 5:30 pm
Beginning of November is the time to commemorate Saint Martin. According to the legend Martin was a Roman soldier who shared what he had with the poor. One winter night Martin met a beggar just wearing rags and freezing badly. With his sword Martin cut his cloak in half and shared it with the beggar. All throughout the local area lantern processions are held in memory of this saint known for his kindness. The event starts in the Ramstein Catholic Church at 5.30 p.m. with a prayer featured by the children of the Montessori Kindergarten. Afterwards parents and their children carrying lanterns follow St. Martin riding his horse through the streets of Ramstein. The Ramstein music club providing musical entertainment accompanies the procession. The procession ends at the church again where a Saint Martin´s fire will be lit up. Hot drinks, “Glühwein” and pretzels are available for a small fee. Proceeds will go to the Montessori Kindergarten. All families and people interested to participate in the Ramstein lantern parade are cordially invited. Participation is free of charge.
