Saint Martin’s Procession in Obermohr
November 11 @ 5:00 pmFree participation!
Beginning of November is the time to commemorate Saint Martin. According to the legend Martin was a Roman soldier who shared what he had with the poor. One winter night Martin met a beggar just wearing rags and freezing badly. With his sword Martin cut his cloak in half and shared it with the beggar. All throughout the local area lantern processions are held in memory of this saint known for his kindness. The Kolping Family Obermohr invites all families and people interested to participate in the Obermohr lantern parade. Participation is free of charge. The event starts at the Obermohr Catholic church at 5 p.m. with a performance of the cloak-sharing of St. Martin. Afterwards children will carry their lanterns through the streets of Obermohr. The procession ends at the community center where a Saint Martin´s fire will be lit up. Hot and cold drinks, waffles and barbecued food are available for a small fee.
