Thursday, May 26 First Anniversary of the Hunsrueck-Hochwald National Park
Hunsrueck-Hochwald National Park, Schwollen

On Thursday, May 26, the Hunsrueck-Hochwald National Park celebrates its first anniversary and it is the 100th anniversary of the National Park Service as well. The community of Schwollen and the Friendship Association of the National Park will present an interesting and manifold program. They will be supported by the National Park Hunsrueck-Hochwald, the US Consulate General Frankfurt, the Atlantic Academy Rhineland-Palatinate, the German-American Institute Saarbruecken as well as friends and delegates from the neighboring National Parks of Schwarzwald and Kellerwald-Edersee. The festive program starts with a church service at 10 a.m. There will be live musical entertainment including the USAFE and US Army Band, a Japanese Taiko drum group, guided tours and lectures in English and German, information booths and activities for children. Food and drinks will be offered. A fireworks is scheduled for 10 p.m. From the parking lots in the village of Schwollen you have the choice of taking a walk of approx. 1 mile or taking the shuttle bus to the festival area.

Saturday, May 28 – Sunday, May 29 Culinary Hike in Erpolzheim

Since 2001 the culinary hike allures thousands of visitors to Erpolzheim near the German Wine Street. The circular route of 6.5 km (4 miles) leads through the blooming fruit groves and lush green vineyards of the romantic wine village. Along the hiking trail 17 booths and stands offer asparagus dishes and other specialties as well as local wines. Vintners, restaurants and fruit farmers cater for the visitors in their yards next to the trail. The event starts at 11 a.m. on both days. Participation is free!
